Looking for some inspiration but still want to DIY? Here are a few suggested itineraries for Weekend Wanderings:
Carolina Beach, NC
Stay at Hampton Inn Oceanfront (highlights: Tiki Bar by the pool, easy access to all that Carolina Beach has to offer)
After a day on the beach, stroll along the Boardwalk and grab dinner at The Carolina Smokehouse. Your kids will enjoy the small carnival rides and the arcade.
The next day, check out Fort Fisher Aquarium. For added adventure, you can take the ferry to Southport and explore there or drive to Wilmington and check out the Children’s Museum of Wilmington and stroll along the riverwalk.
Baltimore, MD
Stay at Pier 5 Hotel or Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor
Check out the National Aquarium and then take a short stroll to Little Italy for dinner. We love Isabella’s. You might enjoy the Pirate Ships or Pedal Boats on the Inner Harbor or take the free ferry across the harbor.
Check out the Maryland Science Center—bring a change of clothes for the kids; they have a not-to-missed water play area! Wrap up with a visit to the American Visionary Museum.
